This is part 3 in a 3-part video blog post series about building marketable business analyst qualifications. In the first post we defined a marketable BA qualification and highlighted that new qualifications develop from the combination of knowledge and experience. In our second post, I provided all kinds of ideas for how you can accumulate BA knowledge without a big training budget, leaving you no excuses! Today, I dive into the harder part of the equation — actually doing what you have learned how to do.
Rest assured there’s a bunch of tips and techniques which you can apply to your career development plan this week. Check out the video for more information.
You might be thinking that you’d rather wait until 2011 to kick off your new career goals. I say why not go into 2011 with a new years’ resolution already under your belt? Talk about momentum! Besides, oftentimes project work slows down towards the end of the year, giving you that extra time you need to take advantage of this opportunity to work with a mentor and build a new career experience.
What new business analyst experience will you build this week?

Great presentation, you hit on some of my issues in being a business analyst. Now if we could get the IIBA to just work with some of the junior level BA’s in showing corporations that educated junior level BA’s can perform the duties that would be great.
Thanks, Tearion. Interesting thought on IIBA coming to the rescue of educated, but inexperienced junior BAs. I really believe the opportunities to build experiences are there, it’s a matter of seeking them out and then learning to market their value to potential employers. Oftentimes the best opportunities are wrapped in unexpected circumstances. That’s why I’ve opened this new mentoring program — specifically designed to help new and junior BAs get over the experience hump.
What if the state you live in doesn’t have an IIBA chapter?
Hi deemart, Can you be more specific about what you are trying to do but not able to because you don’t have a local IIBA chapter?
