From Systems Analyst to Business Analyst

Olga Onal was in a jack-of-all-trades position with the title of Systems Analyst at a small company that created user interface requirements for projects. Her role was to interface between Human Factors professionals and programmers.. before she landed her first BA position.

After getting laid off, she first started looking for jobs as a Technical Writer or Systems Engineer. Recruiters started calling her for Business Analyst positions. After researching the title, she came across Bridging the Gap and found it helpful and inspiring to learn that BAs are not born but made.

A key to her success in finding a BA position at McKesson Provider Technologies was to create a functional resume that focused I what she can do as opposed to what she had been doing. She also spent a fair amount of time reading the BABOK to find out which skills and knowledge were transferable and what was the “BA name” for what she had done.
